Ireland
|
| Unlike Scotland, where the group stayed at one location, the Irish tour included bed and breakfasts each night. Our intent, when the trip was being planned, was to stay near Belfast, near Londonderry, in Tubbercurry, in Galway, in Dingle, in Kinsale, and in Waterford. But, Mrs. "V" became seriously ill so we spent most of our time in a bed and breakfast in Tubbercurry, about 20 miles south of Sligo. From Tubbercurry we traveled during the day and saw much of western and southern Ireland. Also, Brooks served his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ireland, so we made sure that we stopped at two places where he lived in 1967 and 1968. The photos below are of the Irish Experience. |

Our first stop in Ireland was Belfast. The photo at the far left is Brooks at 24 Eblana Street, where he lived in 1968. Keef Halla was our first B. & B. in Crumlin, near Belfast. |

A major tourist attraction along the northern coast of Ireland is Giants Causeway - a unique volcanic formation. A short distance down the road are the ruins of Dunluce Castle. |

Our second B. & B. was in Carrigans, near Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It was a great place. While staying in Tubbercurry, we were directed to a presentation of traditional Irish music and dancing. |

Near Sligo were dozens of Megolithic tombs. Our tour of the tombs was very interesting. In the far south of Ireland is the small town of Kinsale. Hillside B. & B. was our place for the night. |

When Brooks entered the mission field in 1967, his first area was in Cork, Ireland. He lived at 11 St. Joseph's, Darrynane Road. The photo at the far left is that location. While there, the current resident of the house permited Brooks to go in and see his bedroom and where he was fed meals. Just north of Cork, in the small village of Blarney, is the famous Blarney Castle. The Blarney Stone is there and it is said when kissed, the kisser gets the gift of the gab. |

Mr. "V" and daughter, Kirsten, at Blarney Castle. Kissing the Blanery Stone is why people go to Blarney Castle. Here is Brooks kissing the stone. |

Wales
|
| After we left Ireland by ferry, we traveled from Fishguard to Llanfynydd, Wales. It was at this site where we spent our nights as we traveled around southern Wales. Our stay in Wales was very enjoyable as we visited museums near Cardiff, shopped in Hay-on-Wye, and toured Gower peninsula. When we left Wales and were traveling back to London to return home, we stopped to see Stonehenge. That is an amazing place and was well worth the stop. Although Stonehenge is in England, I include the photo with this collection. |

The building at the far left is where we stayed while in Wales. It was located near the very beautiful and picturesque valley shown in the other photo. |

Near Cardiff was a wonderful outdoor museum of Welsch history and culture. We are at a Celtic exhibit. Hay-on-Wye is a town of bookstores. Kathleen loved it. |

One of our last stops was on the Gower peninsula. It was a beautiful coast site. On our way back to London, we stopped to see the amazing Stonehenge. |
