We arrived in Moscow with two purposes in mind: 1) to recover from jet lag, and 2) to see as much of the city as possible before traveling north. While in Moscow, we stayed in a dormitory operated by Moscow State Pedagogical University located in southwest Moscow. From there we visited many historical and cultural sites in the city. This page contains a few photographs of places we visited while in Moscow for four days.

Christ the Savior Cathedral - rebuilt in 1995 after have been destroyed in the 1930s. Church of the Epiphany - seen from a newly constructed walkway from the Metro station.
Our tour of the Novodevichy Cemetery was led by this lady. She spoke Russian and German, but no English. With our Russian, German, and hand signals, we had a wonderful tour. Just prior to our arrival in Moscow, Boris Yeltsin died. We were able to visit his grave site during our cemetery tour. A much more elaborate memorial will be built at this site at a later date. Raiza Gorbachev is buried here. She died some years ago of cancer. She was, of course, the wife of Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the former Soviet Union.

Victory Park was dedicated in 1995. It contains excellent museums and dioramas of WWII battle scenes. The museum is quite a distance from the nearest Metro station, we we needed a rest on the steps of the museum.

No visit to Moscow is complete without going to Red Square and having a picture taken adjacent to St. Basil's Cathedral. It was a beautiful day. And, St. Basil's was spectacular!
